How to Choose a Surgeon

Chicago LASIK professionals Dr. Manus Kraff and Dr. Colman Kraff want you to have the opportunity to have all of your questions answered before you make this very personal and important decision. Laser vision correction is an optional surgery that should be given time and thought before you are completely confident that it is right for you and your eyes. It is important that you receive all the information necessary about your procedure and feel comfortable with the LASIK surgeon you have chosen.

Here are some factors to consider when selecting your LASIK surgeon:

Experience
When searching for a LASIK surgeon, it is important that you find someone with considerable experience who has performed at least 5,000 LASIK surgeries. The number of procedures performed and the complication rates are critical factors in determining whether your doctor has the knowledge and experience to deliver the best results for you. Your LASIK surgeon should be upfront about any information or questions you may have regarding complication rates or post-surgery enhancements.
Do Not Base Your Decision Solely On Price

When dealing with something as precious as your vision, it is important to be skeptical of “good deals” or prices that are “too good to be true.” They generally are just that. The Chicago LASIK surgeon you choose should be based on experience and your own comfort level with his or her skills. Your eyes are too important to settle for price before quality. When making your decision, you want to choose someone who has the best results and uses the best equipment.

For your convenience, Kraff Eye also offers financing to our prospective patients. Financing your LASIK procedure allows you to have the surgery now and make monthly payments that fit your budget. To find out more, visit our LASIK Financing page or call us at (312) 265-3400.

No Guarantees
If you are a qualified candidate for LASIK surgery or another laser vision correction procedure, you should expect to see some improvement in your vision after the procedure, but all patients heal differently. Therefore, you need to be patient while your eyes are healing. You should be cautious of anyone who guarantees 20/20 vision. As with any type of surgery, LASIK results differ from patient to patient and no one can guarantee results.
Ask Friends or Your Eye Doctor Who They Recommend
Often times, the best way to find a good LASIK surgeon is to get a recommendation from someone who has had the procedure or from your eye care professional. A first-hand account of someone else’s experience can be very helpful for you to determine whether a doctor is right for you. Your optometrist is also a valuable resource for information, and their recommendation should be very helpful in your search. We work with over 50 in our affiliate doctor program. To see if your eye care professional is part of this program, or to find one near you who is, please visit our affiliate doctor section.

The Kraff Eye Institute believes that an informed patient is our best patient.
