Intralase
Chicago IntraLase Femtosecond Laser Technology
The Kraff Eye Institute is proud to offer the IntraLase “blade free” Laser for our Chicago LASIK patients.
- What is IntraLase?
- IntraLase® allows our LASIK Surgeons to use a new 100% blade-free laser technology for performing the critical first step in your LASIK procedure: creating the corneal flap. With the IntraLase® method, pulses of laser light create your corneal flap, which is then lifted so the next step of LASIK, the reshaping of your cornea can be performed. Prior to IntraLase®, our LASIK doctors would perform step using a hand-held device with a thin surgical blade, called a microkeratome. This method is still an excellent treatment option for many of our patients. The IntraLase method allows our LASIK surgeons to create a more precise corneal flap that is custom designed, thinner and safer for the patient.
- How does IntraLase® work?
- The IntraLase® method uses tiny, rapid pulses of laser light (a Femtosecond laser) to create your corneal flap. Each pulse of light passes through the top layers of your cornea and forms a microscopic bubble at a specific depth and position within your eye that is determined by our LASIK specialists. The IntraLase® laser will then move back and forth across your eye, creating a uniform layer of bubbles just beneath your corneal surface. The IntraLase® laser then places the vertical laser around your corneal diameter to create the edges of your flap. The creation of the flap itself takes only about 15-30 seconds per eye.
- Is IntraLase right for me?
- The IntraLase technology is the most common method used for performing the first step of LASIK at Kraff Eye Institute. If you have been told LASIK surgery was not an option in the past due to your corneal thickness, IntraLase may provide a new alternative. The only way to know for sure if IntraLase is right for you is to schedule a consultation with our LASIK surgeons.
By providing you with latest technologies, the experts at The Kraff Eye Institute continue to strive to make your LASIK experience as safe and effective as possible. Over 1,000,000 LASIK procedures have been performed nationwide safely and effectively using the IntraLase Method.
