Manus C. Kraff, M.D. is a Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Northwestern University Medical School. He is currently on the Board of Directors and is Program Chairman, as well as past President, of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery; is a past member of the Board of Trustees for the American Academy of Ophthalmology; and is a past member of the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association.
Dr. Kraff was instrumental in developing the Sanders-Retzlaff-Kraff (SRK) Formula, used worldwide to determine the correct power of an intraocular lens to be implanted in a patient's eye during cataract surgery. Research studies performed by Dr. Kraff at the Institute have led to the widespread use of the ultraviolet filtering intraocular lens and technical advances in phacoemulsification (small incision cataract surgery). As a clinical investigator, Dr. Kraff helped pioneer VISX laser vision correction, the Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) for high myopia, and the Implantable Micro-Telescope for macular degeneration.
Twice named to "Best Doctors of America", Dr. Kraff is the only cataract surgeon in Chicago to be distinguished for his outstanding contributions as one of the "Best 111 Ophthalmologists in America". His personal time is spent with his family and enjoying distance running and skiing.
